Dr Andrew Findlay

Principal Dentist

Andrew graduated in 1984 with a BDS from Otago University and practised for 2 years as a Dental House Surgeon In both Hutt and Wellington Hospitals. He has enjoyed private clinical practice in Wellington for some 30 years since and has established more recently, Wakefield House Dental

In 2018 Andrew was awarded the honorary title of FICD , Fellow of the International College of Dentists. www.ICD.org

The College has been honoring the world's leading dentists since 1920 and is located in 122 countries worldwide. Fellowship in the College is extended by invitation only. A nominated dentist must pass a rigorous, peer review process leading to the recognition of the individual's :

“outstanding professional achievement, meritorious service and dedication to the continued progress of dentistry for the benefit of humankind.”

At the outset of his career, he was inspired by the early work of Dr Per Ingvar Branemark and how he had pioneered the concept of replacing missing teeth with osseointegrated dental implants.  Since his first introductory course at the prestigious Branemark Institute in Gothenburg, Sweden, Andrew has spent almost all of his 30+ year career treating dental implant patients both surgically and prosthetically and has witnessed the tremendous development in dental implant systems and their extended application in dentistry today.

Andrew has enjoyed his past role in the Australasian Osseointegration Society as Federal President and was instrumental in establishing the AOS branch in New Zealand. He has presented in both Australia and New Zealand on implant related topics at conference, seminar and study group level.

Cosmetic dentistry has remained one of the cornerstones of his everyday practicing life. Andrew is a firm believer that continuing education is an important part of a dentist’s career and so is always keen to learn about new dental materials and innovative cosmetic techniques for the benefit of his patients.

He has a particular interest in all aspects oral rehabilitation and the restoration of broken-down dentitions back to full health

Andrew has a particular interest in the field of Dental Sleep Medicine. Snoring and Sleep Apnoea are very under-recognised conditions which can often carry significant health risks. Andrew works closely with the Respiratory Physicians and the technical Team at the University of Otago WellSleep Centre. Dental devices, appropriate advice and follow-up can often be very effective strategies for managing these conditions.

Andrew maintains his enthusiasm for dentistry and blends it with his family life and a passion for surfing, mountain-biking and all-things outdoors.

We really appreciate Sheryne’s loyality to our practice and its patients and in fact she  started her dental career as a dental assistant for Andrew’s father, Peter Findlay!

We are very fortunate that Sheryne works part-time in Dr William Gaudie’s specialist periodontal practice, were she is fortunate to have the opportunity to treat patients with complex periodontal problems. It makes it possible to develop her skills and experience in a specialist environment.

Outside of the office, Sheryne keeps supremely fit. She was an aerobics instructor for several years and loves competitive running and rock and roll dancing.
